Concreting prices on the Central Coast

This site publishes no job price for concreting on the Central Coast, because the number depends on the block and only the concreter can give it. What is fixed and public is the Council side: for 2026/27 Central Coast Council charges $338.50 to apply for a standard driveway crossing and $271.95 to inspect it, and NSW sets the points at which a licence, a written contract and home building compensation cover apply.

What moves a Central Coast quote

Truck access moves the number. A concrete truck that can back up to the pour discharges straight down the chute; one that cannot means barrowing or a pump, and both add cost. So does what sits under the pour: an existing slab or driveway has to come out before the new one goes in. On a sloping block, fall and levels add site cut and formwork, and sometimes a step or a small retaining edge.

Width is capped at the kerb. Council's development control plan, Chapter 2.1, sets a maximum driveway width of 4 m at the street crossover, and allows it to splay wider only close to the dwelling where the driveway serves a garage designed for more than two cars. For a house, extra driveway width therefore normally comes inside your boundary rather than at the kerb. Council typically refuses a second crossing unless the property has more than 20 metres of street frontage, sits on a corner block or needs the second access to address a significant safety concern.

Rain moves the calendar. At the Bureau of Meteorology's Gosford (Narara Research Station) station the monthly mean is 154.7 mm in February and 68.5 mm in September, so a pour booked for late summer is more likely to be pushed by a wet excavation than one booked for spring. The long record is the Bureau's own table.

The ground can add a step. NSW planning maps give land an acid sulfate soils class, and the NSW Planning Portal defines the classes by depth: Class 2 land is likely to hold acid sulfate soils below the natural ground surface, Class 4 land beyond 2 metres. The depth of a footing trench or pier hole, not the size of the slab, decides whether the class matters, so ask whether your address has a mapped class. Separately, Wyong and Swansea North Entrance are declared Mine Subsidence Districts whose maps take in parts of the Central Coast Council area, and inside a district Subsidence Advisory NSW approval is needed before building starts. Its own guidance says its requirements for standard residential development do not usually raise construction costs. The NSW Planning Portal Spatial Viewer answers by address.

Council fees for the crossing, 2026/27

These are the amounts in Central Coast Council's Fees and Charges 2026/27 (page 117), which covers the 2026-2027 financial year. The four fixed amounts carry no GST.

Council can also require the removal of work not built to its specifications, charged at the quoted cost plus 20% (fee 1842). None of these pays for the concrete. After the pour, the crossing and anything supporting it is the property owner's to maintain under the Roads Act.

How long the approval takes

Council's page says a straightforward application is usually processed within 14 to 21 days, and allows 28 days where the crossing is complex and needs a site-specific design. A design applies where the crossing is steep, contains multiple levels or may be affected by future road or infrastructure works. On a State road such as the Pacific Highway or Central Coast Highway, written approval from the State road authority has to come first and go in with the Council application. A development consent or construction certificate with driveway conditions is not approval for the crossing itself. The full wording is on Council's Vehicle Access Crossing page.

Thresholds that sit under any quote

In NSW, residential building work over $5,000 in labour and materials including GST needs a contractor licence, and general concreting is on the Government's list of trade work. The same $5,000 line requires a written contract. Above $20,000 the contract must be a large job contract with a cooling-off period of five clear business days, and the contractor must hold home building compensation cover, which you check before you pay anything, deposit included. A deposit cannot exceed 10% of the contract price; the rules are set out in the NSW Government's contracts guide and its insurance page.

How a real quote gets made

A firm price needs someone standing on the site. The measurements matter, but so do the things a phone call cannot establish: where the truck can get to, which way the ground falls, whether the existing surface is coming out, and whether any part of the work crosses the road reserve and so needs Central Coast Council approval before it is poured. Ask the concreter to say in writing whether the quote includes the Council fees and who lodges the crossing application.

Costs and fees by service

House slabs, paths, shed slabs and decorative finishes are each quoted on the job, and each service page says what moves its quote.
